Pirate Fleet Tactics: The things they never tell you

by: Vivien Sureflight, Repossession Overseer

The more you play EVE, the more rules you will hear as to how you should conduct yourself in a fleet situation. These include, but are not limited to, “Always listen to the FC”; “Keep comms clear”; “focus fire/shoot the primary”. While these are generally good rules, they are not the whole story – the most effective fleets are the ones in which many of these rules are broken. Detailed below is a REPO guide to proper conduct when participating in a small gang of pirates (many things I will say here do not translate well to fleets of 10 or more).

I fully expect these words to spark some amount of controversy.

The Fifth Element

Embracing the Fifth Element

by: Vivien Sureflight, Repossession Overseer

I’ve had a lot of fights recently that have given me many examples of what works and what doesn’t in PvP. Based on these experiences — and the experience garnered over the last six years — I have compiled a small guide on the important aspects of every PvP engagement, which I call the Elements of PvP.

Repossession Report: Third Time’s a Charm (3 of 3)

I’m a Caldari enthusiast at heart – the cool, hard aesthetic of Caldari design touching some of the dystopian cyberpunk fan in me. I’m also a kiting devotee who believes that a profitable criminal career as a kiter is much more difficult than commonly thought, particularly with frigates. As an outlaw, my love of Caldari vessels and the kiting tactic provides unique challenges in finding a viable hull that matches my desired combat style.

Until recently the Crow was my go-to choice for kiting. Its forgettable damage output mitigated by unmatched speed and a subpar reputation, which lends itself well to surprise. However, the recent improvements to the Attack Frigate class have unseated my former champion and replaced it with a much cheaper alternative that improves on the Crow in nearly every way.

[Condor, Standard Condor v.1]

Ballistic Control System II
Overdrive Injector System II

Limited 1MN Microwarpdrive I
Warp Disruptor II
Balmer Series Tracking Disruptor I, Optimal Range Disruption Script
Sensor Booster II, Scan Resolution Script

Small Bay Loading Accelerator I
Small Polycarbon Engine Housing I

The midslot layout can be customized to taste. Other obvious alternatives include a Target Painter, Stasis Webifier, Sensor Dampener (dual-damps are possible but tight on CAP), etc. Personally, I’ve found the Sensor Booster to be particularly effective at catching Faction Warfare pilots. Additionally, I highly recommend carrying Precision Missiles for increased damage output when fighting small, fast frigates.

Repossesion Report: Third Time’s a Charm (2 of 3)

I had been experimenting with new Interceptor fits. After the recent improvements to Attack Frigates my standard Crow had become somewhat obsolete - the Condor now being able to achieve similar results at 1/3 the cost with the added bonus of being able to hunt in FW plexes. I’d never been much of a brawler but I had always been intrigued by the massive DPS capabilities of the Taranis. Consequently, I decided on the fit below and chose to step outside of my kiting Interceptor comfort zone.

[Taranis, Gank Ranis v.1]

Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Overdrive Injector System II

Experimental 1MN Afterburner I
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor I

Light Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S
Light Neutron Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge S

Small ‘Ghoul’ Energy Siphon I

Small Hybrid Burst Aerator I
Small Ancillary Current Router I

Repossession Report: Third Time’s a Charm (1 of 3)

At the beginning of last month I posted about getting back to blogging.

A REPO agent always keeps his word.

Piracy does not always cooperate with my search for tales worthy of posting to the REPO blog – there were several victories and defeats last month that hardly bear mentioning – innocent haulers, FW plexers and the like. However, here is the first of three separate accounts of combat and piracy, which I deemed sufficiently entertaining for the blogsphere campfire:
